            There are plenty of things you can do to help minimize the effect of higher fuel prices and allow you to do your part to help save the environment. Thankfully, most of these things are pretty common and can be integrated very easily into your driving routine.So, here are some solutions to reduce your fuel consumption:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Don’t drive if you don’t have to. Obviously, when you don’t drive, you don’t use gas.
  • Avoid quick starts and stops. Drive as smoothly as possible. While each vehicle reaches its optimal fuel economy at a different speed. A heavy foot means you’re going to get pretty bad gas mileage. Essentially, you’re making the car’s engine work much harder than necessary, and in order to get the required energy to quickly get up to speed, it’s going to need to burn more gasoline. However, you also don’t want to accelerate so slowly that you down the engine, as this will reduce your gas mileage as well.
  • Keep the air and fuel filters clean. Driving around with a dirty or clogged air filter can reduce your vehicle’s gas mileage by up to ten percent. And it will affect your fuel consumption.
  • Don't buy a higher octane gasoline than your engine needs.
  • Refuel your vehicle during the evening hours to reduce the amount of pollution created.
  • Use Overdrive Gears. When you use overdrive gearing, your car's engine speed goes down. This saves gas and reduces engine wear.
  • Remove Excess Weight. Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your vehicle, especially heavy ones. Every extra 100 pounds you carry around in your car, the gas reduce it’s mileage by one to two percent.
  • Avoid Excessive Idling. Idling can use a quarter to a half gallon of fuel per hour, depending on engine size and air conditioner use.
